Protecting and Restoring our Environment

Preserving our state’s natural beauty

Preservation and conservation programs have helped North Carolina make great progress toward protecting our state’s natural beauty and habitats, but these programs have recently experienced a decline in funding. We should be increasing support for these programs. They protect our urban tree canopy and our lush forests. They support local farms and protect our water. They also expand parks, trails, and greenways.

Protecting our Ecosystem

Our state’s health, safety, and future depend on maintaining a sustainable ecological balance. Much of our food supply relies on bees that are dying off in masses from exposure to toxic pesticides. Our water supply is at risk of pollution from chemical dumping and the harmful by-products of unsustainable energy production. We need policies that protect our ecosystem and community funding for rebuilding it.

Lead the clean energy revolution

Our state has an incredible opportunity to invest in clean, renewable energy. In addition to fighting climate change, modernizing our energy production creates high-paying jobs and decreases our dependency on fossil fuels. We should increase incentives for offshore wind production and craft policies that make it easier for families and businesses to embrace solar power.
